Since releasing Mac OS X Leopard on Friday, Apple sold (or delivered, in the case of maintenance agreements) more than 2 million copies of the sixth major release of Mac OS X, far outpacing the first weekend sales of Mac OS X Tiger, which was previously the most successful OS release in Apple’s history. “Early indications are that Leopard will be a huge hit with customers,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Leopard’s innovative features are getting great reviews and making more people than ever think about switching to the Mac.” [Oct 30, 2007. Apple warns unlocking iPhone users, in
particular, for those who installed commercial hacking software to
bypassing AT&T SIM card and hacked to make compatible with
another cellphone carrier as well as unauthorized Ringtone
modifications tampering. Apple's future iPhone software updates
will soon to disable and cripple the hacked iPhone like a brick.
Guys! Don't even try to think about it.
"Users who make unauthorized modifications to the software on their
iPhone violate their iPhone software license agreement and void
their warranty," the company said in a statement. "The permanent
inability to use an iPhone due to installing software is not
covered under the iPhone's warranty."
"This has nothing to do with proactively disabling a phone that is
unlocked or hacked," Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president

unfortunate that some of these programs have caused damage to the
iPhone software, but Apple cannot be responsible for ... those
consequences."
As with any Apple product, hacking into the iPhone will void its

Mac mini, the Ultimate Toilet Paper Dispenser

Last Christmas, I prayed for a Mac mini upgrade from Apple. Unfortunately, Uncle Santa Steve did not make my dream came true and Apple failed to reveal anything better for Mac mini's evolution. It sucks!
Nowadays, the existing Mac mini is still stubbornly powered by the out-dated Intel's Core Duo CPU, running the CPU speed at 1.66GHz or 1.83GHz respectively. I do not hear anything significant from the Apple Campus since last year, and obviously Apple will soon drop the Mac mini.
The only way I can see that Mac mini is ended up to serve its glorious duty as a toilet paper holder in my home.

The Big Cat Is Caged!

The original Apple Statement [Apr 12, 2007]
iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned. We can’t wait until customers get their hands (and fingers) on it and experience what a revolutionary and magical product it is.
However, iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price — we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned.
While Leopard's features will be complete by then, we cannot deliver the quality release that we and our customers expect from us. We now plan to show our developers a near final version of Leopard at the conference, give them a beta copy to take home so they can do their final testing, and ship Leopard in October. We think it will be well worth the wait. Life often presents tradeoffs, and in this case we're sure we've made the right ones.
The 8-Core Mac Behemoth

Two Intel's 3GHz Quad-core Xeon "Clovertown" CPU, 4GB capacity of Apple's original Fully-Buffered DIMM memory modules, a total of 1TB of SATA hard disk drives, equipped with only 1 unit of DVD-R/RW Superdrive, Bluetooth EDR(Enhanced Data Rate) and a set of Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mighty Mouse. Of course, AirPort Wi-Fi card is a standard necessity nowadays.
Take a look on the check list below, considered a humble configuration of the system, a price tag of HK$41,700 (US$5,300+). And yet, 23"-inch LCD Display is not included.

Apple Inc & Apple Corps Trademark Lawsuit Settled

The trademark legal disputes between Apple Inc. and Apple Corps Ltd, that is the Beatles' guardian entity have resolved.
The settlement gives Cupertino-based Apple Inc. ownership of the name and logo in return for agreeing to license some of those trademarks back to London-based Apple Corps - guardian of The Beatles' commercial interests - for their continued use.
Other terms of the settlement were not disclosed. Legal analysts estimate that Apple Inc. paid $50 million to $100 million for the rights to own the name and the Apple logo.
Jobs welcomes the positive settlement and Beatles fans are expecting the Fab Four to show up in Apple's iTunes Music Store, no songs of The Beatles are available to download yet, however.

Beatles, the Fab Four available online in iTMS?

Another rumor and speculation to stir up with Apple.
After U2 iPod launched a couple of years ago to the market by Jobs, Mac users always ask me who will be the next iPod Star? and I always claim that the forthcoming idol will be the Beatles.
The Beatles, under the management of Apple Corps, has been tangled up with Apple Computer in courtrooms for more than 20 years. And yet, it is about time to make peace for both companies to benefit themselves in a mutual solution, that put the Beatles' music exclusively in iTunes Music Store for the public. Poisoned Video iPod...
Small Number of Video iPods Shipped With Windows Virus

Quoted from Apple's Statement:
We recently discovered that a small number - less than 1% - of the Video iPods available for purchase after September 12, 2006 left our contract manufacturer carrying the Windows RavMonE.exe virus. This known virus affects only Windows computers, and up to date anti-virus software which is included with most Windows computers should detect and remove it.
So far we have seen less than 25 reports concerning this problem. The iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac OS X are not affected, and all Video iPods now shipping are virus free. As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it.

Fred Anderson Resigns from Apple Board of Directors
Fred Anderson Resigns from Apple Board of Directors
CUPERTINO, California — October 4, 2006 — Apple® today announced that the special committee of its board of directors has reported its findings after a three month investigation into Apple’s stock option practices. The special committee of outside directors, together with independent counsel and accountants, examined more than 650,000 emails and documents, and conducted interviews with more than 40 current and former employees, directors and advisors. Apple initiated this voluntary independent investigation after a management review discovered irregularities in past stock option grants.
The independent investigation's key findings are:
• The investigation found no misconduct by any member of Apple's current management team.
• The most recent evidence of irregularities relates to a January 2002 grant.
• Stock option grants made on 15 dates between 1997 and 2002 appear to have grant dates that precede the approval of those grants.
• In a few instances, Apple CEO Steve Jobs was aware that favorable grant dates had been selected, but he did not receive or otherwise benefit from these grants and was unaware of the accounting implications.
• The investigation raised serious concerns regarding the actions of two former officers in connection with the accounting, recording and reporting of stock option grants. The company will provide all details regarding their actions to the SEC.
"I apologize to Apple's shareholders and employees for these problems, which happened on my watch. They are completely out of character for Apple," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We will now work to resolve the remaining issues as quickly as possible and to put the proper remedial measures in place to ensure that this never happens again."
The company also announced that Fred Anderson, Apple’s former CFO, has resigned from its board of directors. Mr. Anderson, who served as CFO from 1996 until 2004, informed the company that he believes it is in Apple’s best interests that he resign from the board at this time.
The company and its independent auditors are reviewing the findings of the independent investigation. Management continues to believe, and the audit committee agrees, that Apple will likely need to restate its historical financial statements to record non-cash charges for compensation expense relating to past stock option grants. The company and its independent auditors are reviewing recent accounting guidance published by the SEC, and have not yet determined the amount of such charges, the resulting tax and accounting impact, or which periods may require restatement. The company continues to proactively inform the SEC of its findings.
Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning desktop and notebook computers, OS X operating system, and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital music revolution with its iPod portable music players and iTunes online music store.
